Spring Break Essentials--Bikinis

Whether you are going to the beach or the pool, you deserve a new bikini for spring break. You've worked super hard this semester and it's time to reward yourself. Plus, who doesn't love buying new bathing suits? You can never have too many!

Here are my top four picks:

I typically always get my bathing suits from Victoria's Secret.  They're good quality, there are a lot of options, and they can be mixed and matched easily.  I love the new leopard print they came out with this season. I'm not a fan of having prints on both the top and bottom, so I would wear a plain black top with it.

The pattern isn't too loud with this bikini, so I don't mind it being on both the top and bottom.  I personally don't like tie bottoms, but I wanted to include the style in this post. Topshop only recommends this top for B cup sizes or smaller, though. *sadface*

I've been obsessed with this bikini forever. It's my fitness goal reward. I love the unique style of all the Triangl bikinis and no one here wears them--which is the downfall of all the Victoria's Secret ones. Seriously, the beaches are like walking into a VS catalogue.

Anyway, I'm really feeling a metallic bikini for spring break (especially in this copper color).

I'm obsessed with these ruffle bottoms.  I bought them in black with the matching ruffle bandeau last summer.  (I just really like black, okay?) This is my typical method of styling my bikinis: printed top with a coordinating solid colored bottom. Plus, all of the VS patterns are super cute (minus the multi-cored stripes--I hate the multi-colored stripes) and they all can be matched with at least one of their solid colored bottoms.

Spring Break Essentials--Sunnies

As promised, here is the first segment of Spring Break Essentials.  Sunglasses are a must for spring break even if you aren't going to the beach.

While at Disney last weekend, we stopped at the larger-than-normal Sunglass Hut in Downtown Disney.  I may or may not have tried on every single pair in the store.

For this post, I've picked my top four from my window-shopping spree.

I currently own these and refuse to part with them. Look at the gradient lenses! So perfect! However, they have seen better days.  My boyfriend got them and I stole them, but the lens is chipped on one of the top inside corners due to him attempting to pop it back. (I accidentally sat on them--oops.)

These are only on my list because I'm struggling to bring myself to purchase another pair of the exact same sunglasses.  I know that once I buy a new pair, my beloved chipped ones will be sent off to a dusty corner but I still feel like I shouldn't spend that much money on something I already own. Such difficult decisions!

These sunglasses are more bug-eyed in person than in the picture.  At first, I tried them on as a joke because I normally don't like that style, but I was actually impressed. They're square enough to not make you look like a beetle, but big enough to be more cute than edgy.

These are the current dream sunglasses.  Unless I want to severely damage my bank account, I won't be getting these any time soon.  But look how cute they are! These are pretty buggy, but I like how they come into points at the top. The blue lining also gets me.  This is literally the perfect girly style. I would buy them in a heartbeat if I didn't have to feed myself for the next two months--and that says a lot coming from a girl who only likes wayfarers and aviators.

Is it Spring Break Yet?

Halfway through spring semester, there is only one thing on every college student's mind--spring break.

Sadly, midterms exist to give us all a reality check and make sure we're aware that it doesn't start for (in my case) another week.

However, we can still put off studying for that Spanish midterm tomorrow but talking about the essentials.  Let's get real, if you are going to be anywhere near the water for spring break (which you absolutely should be) then there are only four things you are going to need: sunglasses, bikini, beach bag and some important accessories.

Personally, I plan on being at the beach every day because I haven't been in forever and I'm starting to sparkle in the sun like the Cullens.

This blog post is going to serve as a kick-off for my next four posts regarding what you're going to need to make spring break awesome.  There will be a post each day dedicated to one of the items.

Keep checking back each day to see my suggestions, and leave a comment if you have any other suggested items for me to add or questions for me to answer!

Remedies for Chapped Lips

Chapped lips used to be a constant problem of mine, especially in the winter.  I know a lot of other people struggle to find a good solution to the problem as well.

After struggling a lot this winter with chapped lips--Florida decided to participate in the seasons this year--I've decided to put together a little list of the best and not-so-best lip balms.

1. EOS Lip Balm // I really wanted to love this product, but eventually I had to give it up.  The concept is good, the packaging is cute, and the flavors are great--but it did nothing for me.  It's an okay option to use on occasion to maintain healthy lips; but if you are in some desperate need of repair, this probably isn't going to do much for you.

2. Burt's Bees Lip Balm // My favorite flavors are honey and mint.  This lip balm is decent, but only if you apply it religiously.  If your lips are already healthy, this lip balm will definitely work for everyday use.  If your lips need repair I would suggest using something stronger at least once a day and then using the mint Burt's Bees throughout the day.

3. Carmex Lip Balm // This little miracle worker right here is what saved me.  I applied it at least three times a day and it cured my horrendously chapped lips.  They were awful, nothing was working, and I absolutely could not wear lipstick. After using this, it was like nothing was ever wrong.  It's super hydrating, long lasting, and leaves your lips feeling soft.

4. Maybelline Baby Lips //  I personally have not used this product, but a girl I used to dance with swears by it.  I think she owned one of each.  With the amount of lipstick we had to cake on during competition season, her opinion is pretty valid. Online reviews for this product also say that it works well.

5. LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub // This isn't a lip balm, but I wanted to add it to the list anyway.  It's a gentle exfoliator for your lips and is good to use all the time.  When my lips were severely chapped I would apply Carmex right before a steamy shower, and afterward I would exfoliate with this lip scrub before reapplying the Carmex. It's also good to use right before applying lipstick in order to ensure a "flawless finish."

Classic Red

I know it’s a little too late for Valentine’s Day, but I did want to share my nails with you because every girl needs a good red in their collection.

While out shopping today, I picked up my first Deborah Lippmann polish for the occasion—so exciting! I chose “It’s Raining Men” and it’s a bright red.  The first coat went on slightly shear, but the second coat achieved complete coverage.  I was a little disappointed because alone it wasn’t very shiny, but I always use Out the Door as a top coat anyway.

I really like this color despite the fact that I don’t wear red often, and it was easy to apply even with the thin brush. I do already have a tiny chip at the top of one of my nails, which I’m a little dissatisfied by, but it may have been because they weren’t completely dry before I went out last night.

February Wish List

So I’ve decided that once a month I am going to post a wish list.  It’ll be the top five items that I’ve found and would like to purchase.  Also, if I end up purchasing any of the items—which I intend to do for most cases—I’ll make individual posts about them throughout the month.

Here is my wish list for February:

Completely Obsessed

Since I haven’t posted anything in a while, I thought I would share some of my favorite semi-recent purchases.

O.P.I. is probably my favorite brand of nail polish.  Not only do I love the colors, but I am also a huge fan of their wide brushes.  While I was home for break I picked up Honk if You Love OPI.  It’s a deep purple.  I’m super excited about it because I’ve been trying to find something like this for a while now.  This is literally my second week of wearing it—I did freshly repaint them today, however. My friend also recommended Lincoln Park After Dark, which I really want to add to my collection, but it’s so similar to this one that I can’t bring myself to buy it just yet.

My most recent purchase was my Kate Spade Skinny Mini Bow Ring.  I have worn it everyday so far since I bought it.  I’m absolutely obsessed.  I saw it in the store a while ago and then was re-inspired to purchase it after seeing it multiple times on The College Prepster.  It took me about three trips to Kate Spade to admit that I had to have it, and once I learned that I would get a 15% discount with my student ID I was definitely sold.

I think I bought this bracelet about three months ago at Charming Charlie’s, but I’ve been wearing it a lot recently.  I’m really into the chunky chain jewelry because they look good alone unlike some thinner bracelets—I’m not a huge fan of wearing multiple ones because of the jingling.  Self-contradicting side note: I’m a big fan of the look of stacks, so I might be embracing the jingling soon. Stay tuned.
