Tips for Surviving Finals Week

If you're like me, you're in the middle of taking finals right now. If not, you're lucky and you still have time for some tips on how to study, destress, and try not to freak out.

Study Tips:

1. Organize notes in advance. Get all your notes together and skim through them. If you have a study guide, put it with your notes. Find old assignments, quizzes, and tests that might have relevant information.

2. Highlighters, sticky notes, and flags are your friends. Highlight important notes (don't get crazy, it's not a coloring book), flag important pages in text books, and leave notes everywhere.

3. Make flashcards. If flashcards are your thing? You do you.

4. Plan EVERYTHING. When your exams are, when you're going to study, what you're going to study, when you're going to write that final paper. More obsessive planning tips here.

5. Re-read about key points. No one expects you to re-read through all your textbooks, but refresh on important topics and if you have page number reminders written anywhere read the pages.

6. Handwrite everything. Write out important notes. If you re-read something, make new notes about it. Handwriting things helps your absorb the information better.

Self Tips:

1. Remember to eat healthy. That fast food will not make you feel better and will not help you pass.

2. Drink less coffee than you think you need. I can't tell you not to drink coffee because you're going to be tired (and also I've gone to Starbucks at least three times), but don't overdo it on the caffeine or extra surgery lattes/frappacinos. Just don't upgrade to gold status during this week (aka don't go 30 times).

3. Sleep! Please sleep. Schedule in sleep. Successful all-nighters are a myth.

4. Stay active (if you have time and it's something you normally do). If you usually workout during the week, try not to completely stop. It can help you destress--also, I'm known to get sick if I suddenly go from being super active to doing nothing (so I personally wouldn't recommend stopping..)

5. Make time to relax. I had to remind myself of this one. I said I wouldn't do anything off task until I got through all of my finals--but I took a study break to read and watch Netflix last night and it was wonderful.

I currently have two finals down, two to go, and a presentation. After next Monday, I'm officially a senior and all my friends will be graduation (cue crying). Wish me luck!
